Miranda Jones was born in 1955 in Australia, where she attended Flinders University (BA Fine Arts & Languages 1976) and La Trobe University (BA Honours 1979). Immigrating to Canada in 1980, she took up residence in St. John’s, Newfoundland where she further trained through the Extension Department of Memorial University while exhibiting her work in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. After moving to Saskatoon she attended the University of Saskatchewan (MFA 1989). Today, while pursuing her own work she instructs painting for the Extension Department of the University of Saskatchewan. Miranda illustrated the recently released children’s book “The Floating Orchard”, written by Troon Harrison and published by Tundra Books. Her work has been commissioned by Parks Canada in both Newfoundland and Nova Scotia and her imaginative paintings are in the collections of: Saskatchewan Arts Board; City of Regina; Saskatchewan Property Management Corporation, Regina; Parks Canada; NLCDA Permanent Collection, St. John’s; Provincial Government of Newfoundland and Labrador; Memorial University, St. John’s; and Newfoundland and Labrador Institute of Fisheries and Marine Technology.
