I have lived most of my life in Saskatoon, and now reside on an acreage just outside the city limits which provides me with most of the inspiration for my paintings. I attended the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with a Bachelor of Education and a Post Grad Diploma.

My art is a blend of traditional and contemporary. I often use a palette knife to sculpt out thick textures in my work, such as the bark of a tree or the edge of a rocky hill. I am fascinated by light as it is very important to me as I paint subjects outside or plein air. Capturing the mood outside and then completing the painting in my studio is the most satisfactory process for me. My goal is to transport the viewer from reality to the place and time of the painting. Every time I paint outside, I am in awe of nature and try to communicate that feeling.

In late 2007 I decided I needed a change of atmosphere.  I quit my job, bought some good tools and went out on my own.  I started building high quality kitchen cabinets at an affordable price.  Over the years I discovered my true passion was handcrafting furniture and smaller items such as jewelry boxes, keepsake boxes and cutting boards out of solid wood.  Now my wife and I travel to local craft shows to promote and sell our products

Artist’s Message

The muse for these pieces are my garden (as always) and the pond at Boffin Gardens at Innovation Place.  Make time to visit the garden this fall and take note of the reflections in the water –  the sky, the fall leaves – it is truly magic. Be mindful of the silence and calm, which has lead me into my fall and winter series.

You are welcome to visit the show without taking a table, simply let them know that you are there to view the art.
It may feel a bit awkward; however, I have done it several times and it was all good.
Better yet, if you do have time to have a drink and/or some eats that is always a bonus.
Calories is gracious in providing space for local artists and appreciates people visiting.

On October 21th, Calories will be hosting a Saskatoon Singer/Songwriter Kay Clarity.
Her voice brings me joy and her lyrics have inspired writing in my paintings. Tickets are required for the show.  Let me know if you are interested.

The show will hang from September 1st  to October 30th.

I am trying to do the social media thing, with help from my kids.

Robynn Olson is a home grown Saskatoon artist who is passionate about the people in her city. Her first goal when she began selling art was to sell affordable, quality art. She sold to her family, friends and others who heard of her work. In the last couple years she has developed a style in which landscapes come alive with vibrant colour and energetic brush strokes. Her landscapes have a modern impressionistic feel.
“I find a space that means something to me, study it and brighten it up with paint – it is still the same space, yet I hope to make it richer.”
Robynn’s goal is to grow more in her passion to paint and learn to better appreciate the world around her. She feels privileged to paint the Creator’s world, He is the ultimate Master of art.

A Walk Toward the Sunny Hill is a contemplative study on a journey, both of a physical journey to the wild prairie fields that surround the home where I grew up and a journey of the soul as I respond to the land that I discover. Each painting examines the land- how it moves, how it plays a role in shaping those that tread upon it, what it is composed of. The show is composed of two parts- 10 impressionistic abstract canvas pieces that explore the grassy fields and the effects that they have on the viewer as the wind blows through. An additional 6 watercolour pieces are included under the title, The Living Things I Brought Back With Me, which examine the individual parts that these fields are composed of and how those parts may be preserved.

I am a botanical watercolour artist and abstract impressionistic painter working out of Saskatoon, SK, having recently moved back after a stint in Vancouver. I create pieces inspired by the natural landscapes around me and I desire to reflect the relationship between the human soul, atmosphere, and the land. I find myself drawn toward the Victorian Naturalist movement along with the history of wildcrafting and natural medicine. I currently sell my work online, in a few local shops and am quite often taking on new commission work for botanical pieces or house portraits.

This body of work was comprised over the many months of winter.
The warm swirls of acrylic paint were therapeutic during a long stretch of darker days.
The prairie climate forces it’s inhabitants to brave a harsh environment.
The reward of Spring is welcome and always provides us with new hope and rejuvenation.
